Come
and volunteer in paradise!
Calling all vets who are feeling the need for a complete change and an excellent holiday - however short your time may be! Come to Koh PhaNgan where everyone can find a holiday to suit them, and become more involved in the island life while you're there. This is one of Thailand's least developed tourist destinations, and we'd like to try to keep it that way - it can provide beauty and seclusion or a wild night out, but the friendliness is what truly makes it worth a stay.
We are looking for experienced veterinarians to volunteer at PAC for the main purpose of neutering, so that we can continue our efforts in humane population control. The number of government-planned culls on the island has decreased dramatically in the years since PAC’s opening and with your help we hope to eventually be able to eliminate them completely.
Due to the clinic workload, we schedule 2 surgery days per week for veterinarians assisting our neutering program. We usually collect our patients on the morning of surgery, so you need only to arrive at the clinic and the live-in nurses will be ready to assist with surgeries and anesthetics. In addition, there may be difficult medical cases or other surgeries required to assist our nurses in the treatment the various island ailments.
We can recommend a
variety of places to stay, from a cliff-face balcony 10 minutes from the main party
beach, to a secluded sunset view over the gulf of Thailand, many
of which have offered a discount to visiting veterinarians working
with PAC. We can also offer discounts on scuba diving packages and
other activities for
those veterinarians volunteering their time.
This position requires at least 2 years of small animal clinical experience. It is not an appropriate placement for inexperienced veterinarians, unless they are willing to remain nurse’s assistants a similar role to that of vet students, though with greater collaboration regarding treatment options. We do not promote the use of Koh PhaNgan’s animals for surgical learning or practice. Individual new graduates may be accepted in certain circumstances, depending on the availability of supervision, length of commitment, and level of experience.
Veterinary Students are welcome to spend some of their small animal extra-curricular work experience at PAC we will accept a maximum of two veterinary students at one time. We cannot guarantee demonstration from an experienced vet during your visit, but rest assured that there is a huge amount to be learned from our experienced veterinary nurses!
If you will be in Thailand or are tempted to visit, please donate a few of your days to PAC - it's an ideal opportunity to help the less elite of the animal population! Please complete and submit the form below, to allow for effective scheduling of surgeries and other volunteers.
